Ko Olina Lagoons: which of the four to pick

Ko Olina's four man-made lagoons are the reason people plan entire trips around this resort. Each one sits in a rock-walled crescent that blocks nearly all wave action, so the water stays calm even when the open ocean beyond the breakwater is rough. They're free, open to the public, and connected by a mile-and-a-half coastal path, so even if you're not staying at the resort fronting a specific lagoon, you can walk to any of them.

Lagoon 1 (Kohola)

The biggest and busiest of the four, fronting both the Four Seasons and Aulani. Best sand, most space, and the most crowded for exactly that reason. Public parking here is limited, under 20 stalls, so if you're not staying at one of the two resorts on this lagoon, plan to park elsewhere and walk over.

Lagoon 2 (Honu)

Fronts the Beach Villas at Ko Olina. Consistently the quietest of the four despite sitting in the middle of the string, mostly because it isn't attached to a big resort drawing crowds. A good pick if calm and uncrowded matters more to you than proximity to amenities.

Lagoon 3 (Nai'a)

Fronts the Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club. Similar amenities to the others, showers and restrooms, plus easy access to Longboards, a beachfront restaurant right on the path if you want food without leaving the water.

Lagoon 4 (Ulua)

Not attached to any single resort, which is exactly why it has the most public parking of the four. If you're visiting for the day rather than staying on-property, this is the one to aim for. It also sits right next to Ko Olina Marina, convenient if you're combining a lagoon morning with an afternoon boat tour.

Common questions

Which Ko Olina lagoon has the best parking?

Lagoon 4 (Ulua), since it isn't attached to a specific resort and has the largest public lot. Lagoons 1 through 3 each have fewer than 20 public stalls.

Which Ko Olina lagoon is best for young kids?

All four are calm and shallow enough for young kids, thanks to the rock breakwaters blocking wave action. Lagoon 2 tends to be the quietest if you want more space to spread out.

Do I need to be a hotel guest to use the lagoons?

No. All four lagoons are open to the public. Staying at the attached resort just means an easier walk instead of driving and parking.

Is there good snorkeling in the lagoons?

It's decent for beginners, mostly small fish and the occasional turtle near the rock openings, but there's no real reef. If snorkeling is the priority over convenience, a boat tour out to open water will show you more.
