The best luaus in Kauai

Kauai's luau scene is smaller than Maui's and quieter than Oahu's, which is on-brand for the island. Smith Family Garden Luau has been run by the same Hawaiian family on the Wailua River since 1946. There's a tram tour through tropical gardens before dinner and a real imu ceremony to pull the pig from the underground oven. Auli'i is the only oceanfront luau on Kauai, at Poipu Beach, but it runs only on Mondays and Wednesdays. Luau Kalamaku at Kilohana Plantation is the most theatrical of the three, with an optional plantation railway ride.
