#1FeaturedSmith Family Garden Luau
Run by the same Hawaiian family since 1946. Tram tour through tropical gardens before dinner. Imu ceremony.
Book this tourKauai's luau scene is smaller than Maui's and quieter than Oahu's, which is on-brand for the island. Smith Family Garden Luau has been run by the same Hawaiian family on the Wailua River since 1946. There's a tram tour through tropical gardens before dinner and a real imu ceremony to pull the pig from the underground oven. Auli'i is the only oceanfront luau on Kauai, at Poipu Beach, but it runs only on Mondays and Wednesdays. Luau Kalamaku at Kilohana Plantation is the most theatrical of the three, with an optional plantation railway ride.

If your trip doesn't include a Monday or Wednesday, Auli'i is off the table, plan around Smith Family or Kalamaku instead. Smith Family is the better fit if you want history and multi-generational tradition. Kalamaku is the better fit if you want spectacle and a bit more production value.
Because Auli'i only runs two nights a week, it's the one most likely to sell out relative to demand. If seeing an oceanfront luau on Kauai matters to you, check your dates against Monday or Wednesday first before building the rest of your trip.
Kauai's small luau scene means the three we cover are genuinely most of what's available island-wide. If you're staying on the North Shore and none of these three fit your schedule, ask your resort directly, some run smaller-scale luau nights seasonally that don't always show up in general search.
Auli'i, at Poipu Beach, is the only oceanfront option, but it only runs Mondays and Wednesdays.
